Camp Lango 2012
Summer Language Camps for KidsCamp Lango is a terrific way for kids ages 4-11 (going into kindergarten - sixth grade) to learn Spanish or French while enjoying summertime fun. Lango campers spend each week immersed in an exciting part of the Latin American world or France. Lango's dynamic, experienced teachers serve as counselors, and are supported by a team of native-speaking and fluent assistant counselors. Campers spend each day moving from one activity to the next, including special "No English!" times, designed to provide an immersion experience while still allowing for a ton of fun. A week or more of Camp Lango is guaranteed to boost your child's new language ability! Camp Lango Approach and Curriculum At Camp Lango, we believe that the best way for kids to learn a new language during summer camp is for them to have camp-style fun while immersing them in their new language. While they’re at Camp Lango, your kids will move from one activity to the next throughout the day, participating in both traditional camp games and LangoAdventure Learning©Challenges, thus absorbing Spanish in a variety of ways, and certainly never getting bored. Meanwhile, we use a “graduated immersion” approach. Early in the week, campers hear both English and Spanish, to make sure they are comfortable and that they understand all important information. Throughout the week, we increase the amount of Spanish they hear, and invite them to speak more Spanish as well. By the end of the week, we find that many campers are comfortable in an all-Spanish environment.Note: students coming from dual immersion or other Spanish backgrounds will begin the week hearing a greater proportion of Spanish. A Typical Day at CampLango*
*Actual schedule will vary daily to provide regular-day campers with a full variety of activities. Age Groups Your child will be placed on an equipo –a team – based on his/her age level. If you wish your child to be placed in a group with a friend or sibling who is likely to be in a different group, please let us know, and we will do our best to meet your request. Safety and Security Our campers’ safety is our top priority. We do everything we can to prevent crises of any sort, and we follow clearly established steps if something does happen. First, we keep our child-to-adult ratio low, 7-to-1 at the highest, and our camps are typically much smaller in the number of students (between 15 and 30 students at a time) than other camps, ensuring maximum attention to your children and a positive learning and fun experience. Additionally, we ensure that our staff is trained to prevent and respond to emergencies. Our Lango counselor training encompasses safety and security measures that are specific to each location. Finally, every counselor is equipped with a cell phone at all times, as well as a student roster with emergency contact information. If a concern arises, our staff will first determine its severity and then call either the listed emergency contact or 911; if we call the latter, we will certainly call the emergency contact immediately afterwards. You can help us by making sure that your registration form is entirely filled out, including the sections listing allergies and medical conditions, emergency contacts and the adults who are allowed to pick your child up from camp. And please be sure to bring identification when you pick your child up from camp! Lunch and Snacks Lango will provide mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks every day to all campers. Campers will “buy” snacks at the Langotiendawith play money, so that snack becomes an instructional device. Snacks will include:
If your child has specific dietary needs or concerns, please be sure to let us know, and to send a snack that meets your child’s needs. Lango does not provide lunch, so it must be packed.
